Events

Wellness Wednesdays: Engaging activities to enhance student well-being are implemented each Wednesday. These activities support students with attaining essential skills such as stress management, problem solving, emotional regulation, and socializing with peers.

Examples of Wellness Wednesday activities:

Gratitude Jar Making: Students are encouraged to identify what they are grateful for. Gratitude supports individuals with improving their mental well-being. This event supports students with creating decorative jars, writing what they are grateful for on a small piece of paper and placing it in the jar. Students can keep the jar and use it whenever they need to improve their mood.

Move and Groove: A physical obstacle course is set up for students where they can compete in activities such as soccer, jump rope, ball assortment, and limbo. The winners of the obstacle course receive prizes. Students have found this activity beneficial for their well-being as participating in physical movement helps to increase their energy levels and overall stamina.

Paint the Stress Away: This event involves students expressing their creativity by drawing, painting, and colouring. Students are given therapeutic colouring sheets along with canvases. Several students found this activity relaxing as they enjoyed expressing their emotions in artistic ways.

Workshops: Wellness workshops are meant to provide students with information on specific wellness topics. These workshops have interactive components for students to practice the skills they have been taught.

Building Resilience Workshop: This workshop provides an overview of the effects of stress on the mind and body. Students are provided with information on evidence-based coping strategies along with techniques they can use to regularly practice stress management. Students are engaged in peer-led discussion activities where they learn about healthy coping strategies that their peers have used and how they have overcome stressful situations.

Managing Homesickness Workshop: This workshop explores the common experience of homesickness that many international students face upon arriving to Canada. A presentation is facilitated to review symptoms of homesickness and coping resources that students can utilize. Discussion activities are led to review strategies that students can use to manage these feelings. Students are encouraged to make connections with peers, join volunteer groups on campus, and engage in meaningful hobbies.

Meditation and ME Workshop: The purpose of this workshop is to discuss the benefits of meditation, types of meditation, and meditation techniques that individuals can incorporate in their day-to-day routine. A meditation session is run to support students with feeling relaxed and understanding the importance of staying in the present moment.

Wellness Club:

Students are encouraged to take a lead in carrying out health and wellness initiatives on campus by joining the Wellness Club. Students can apply to become Health Promotion Ambassadors, Co-chair, and Marketing Coordinators. Those who are interested can email [email protected]. Volunteer hours will be given to those who are part of the club.
