Housing Assistance
Housing
It is recommended that as soon as your Study Permit is approved that you begin to arrange your living accommodations. As there is no residence or housing provided at the Mohawk College Mississauga Campus, students are responsible to arrange their own housing accommodations prior to their arrival. Our local Student Services Coordinators can assist you with your housing search. There are a lot of great options in the city of Mississauga.

Tips for Off-Campus Living
While renting an apartment or subletting a room, here are some tips to be a good tenant and have a great rental experience.
1. Read the fine print.
Become familiar with your lease agreement and read all the terms to protect yourself. All commitments and expectations from the landlord and tenant should be well documented as this is a business association. Your exit clause and return of security deposit should be well defined with the notice period clearly specified.
2. Learn about the area.
Familiarize yourself with the area online and check to see where the rental is in relation to campus. If you’re considering living further away from campus to reduce costs, choose somewhere close to the public transit system for easy access to campus.
3. Ask for a second opinion.
If you’re unfamiliar with the Greater Toronto Area, feel free to connect with Off-Campus Housing at Places4Students.com – Helping Students Find a Home Away from Home to ask for a second opinion on any listing you are looking at.
Make sure to double check the legitimacy of online ads by searching the rental address in Google maps, or image search the online photos. If you live too far away to view the unit in person, we recommend requesting a live video tour.
4. Understand what’s included
Understand the cost of utilities and if they’re included in the monthly rent or not. You can also ask about what else is included in the rent like parking, snow removal, internet, etc. Visit Mississauga https://www.hydroone.com/or more info if utilities are not included.
5. Tips on How to Avoid Rental Scams
- Know the average rental prices.
- Always view the apartment in person
- Meet the Landlord
- Never rent without a lease agreement
- Know your tenants right:
Research your tenants’ rights to protect yourself against potential wrong doings during your apartment search and in the future. You can search multiple resources online, including the strict guidelines enforced by the Ontario government.
6. Be a good neighbour.
